About CANL
Who We Are & What We Do
The Canadian Association of Nigerian Lawyers (CANL) is the umbrella organization of Nigerian-Canadian legal professionals across Canada. Membership of CANL extends beyond legal professionals of Nigerian origin: it is open to legal professionals of other backgrounds who identify with CANL’s core values.
CANL was established in 2012 by Nigerian-Canadian lawyers who recognized the need for a platform to unite Nigerian legal professionals in Canada to advance their professional interests and promote inclusivity, equity and justice.

Encouraging active participation in community outreach, pro bono services, and initiatives that support and uplift the Nigerian-Canadian community and other underserved populations.

Fostering a culture that values and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal profession and larger society.
Mentorship & Educational Support
Providing guidance, mentorship and resources to law students and early-career legal professionals to facilitate their successful integration into the Canadian legal landscape.
Collaborative Networking & Partnerships
Building strong networks and partnerships with other legal associations, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance professional opportunities and community impact.
In addition to supporting the legal community, CANL is deeply committed to giving back to the wider Nigerian-Canadian community through various service projects and charitable initiatives. We have organized and participated in community outreach programs and collaborated with local organizations to make impactful charitable donations to causes that uplift and empower underserved communities. These efforts reflect our core values of service, integrity, and social responsibility.
Throughout the year, CANL conducts a variety of events, including advocacy campaigns on issues relevant to our community, networking mixers, skills development workshops for law students, and continuous professional development programs to enhance legal practice. Our efforts aim to foster community, promote excellence, and support the professional growth of Nigerian legal professionals in Canada.
