Our Health Is In Our Hands Initiative
A child currently dies every two minutes from malaria, but it used to be every 30 seconds. If people with fever do not receive treatment because the health system is overwhelmed by COVID-19 or for fear of becoming infected with COVID-19, it is possible that thousands of malaria cases could go undiagnosed and treated and therefore deaths from malaria could significantly increase again amidst COVID 19.
Presently, our team visits village squares, markets and households to increase enlightenment on the dangers of COVID-19 as well as malaria and also share food items to the vulnerable. We teach them techniques of hand washing with soap and clean water irrespective of religious affiliation. After teaching them on hand washings, soaps and hand sanitizers are distributed for beneficiaries to go home in order to stress the importance of hand washing practices. Due to lock down resulting from spread of COVID 19, door to door mosquito treated nets are shared to households who don’t have, especially where we have pregnant women, under five aged children and the aged.
